If people grow up not knowing what's happening, or not caring about what's happening, the government could pass some crazy laws overnight without them picking up on it! People say that teenagers don't read anymore but to be honest I don't agree with that at all, many teenagers read a lot online. What I think people mean to say is that the teenagers should be reading a variety of things and not just their myspace comments :) I think a major problem that needs to be solved is a lot of older teenagers are not reading/watching/listening any type of news at all which means the UK will be full of people who don't know what's happen out their and don't care.
